Composting - A Recipe for Regeneration
When I was in third grade, my teacher, Ms. Mathews, told me about a poster contest where the goal was to show people why composting is a good thing for people to do for the environment. I was immediately motivated because I thought that was a good thing to make a poster about. So, my friends Wesley, Nico, and I teamed up and worked as a group to make a poster to inspire other people to compost.
What inspired us?
I thought it was important to let people know how important composting is for nature, and educate people on the types of things that can be composted. Food compost can be turned into nutrients for plants. And, the environment needs this! Animals and insects rely on plants for their food.
Trash or Compost?
I drew an apple core, and Nico and Wesley drew fruits and vegetables that can be composted. We want people to know that they do not have to throw this type of food away! When you are done with an apple, for example, you should not think about throwing it in the trash. Instead, you should think about how what is left of the apple can help plants and all the things that depend on plants – including us!
“Recipe for Regeneration”
The title for our poster was: “Recipe for Regeneration”. We want people to think about a recipe in a different way. Instead of thinking about a recipe as preparing food for humans, we want people to think about a different type of recipe for the plants and the world that we live in.
This poster contest was a fun way for me to work with my friends and for me to teach others about the importance of composting. I want to thank everyone who organized this and the whole thing has been a great experience.
