Trash Bash Speech

Hi everyone, my name is Mia, I’m twelve years old and I attend Del Mar middle school in Tiburon. I made my [Painted Bins] poster when I was in 5th at Bel Aire Elementary and as of right now it is located on the back bin near the fountain plaza.

I thought Painted Bins was an important project to raise awareness about the harmful impact of plastic on our environment as well as the impact of fodwaste on the environment. I hope that people can learn to refuse the amount of plastic waste and reduse the amount of food that is wasted.

Did you know that 40% of food is wasted each year! That’s almost half! Luckily there is a process called recycling. This is when we eat food, put our scraps in the compost bin, then the food scraps are made into compost which creates a nutrient-rich soil that is used to grow more food!

My overall favorite part of this project was the amount of creativity I got to express through my passion for the environment. When participating in this project I learned a variety of skills, one being to start caring more about the environment because as human beings we can all do our part to help save our earth.

That’s all for today, I would like to thank everyone for having me and the founder of this organization, Kathy.
